Zenimax Online Studios is hard at work on their new MMO, The Elder Scrolls Online. Already chosen by many as “The Most Anticipated MMO of 2013”, this title looks to bring the incredible open world experiences made so popular in the Elder Scroll single player PC and console games to the MMO space. The beta has been announced and all those interested can sign up here:
With a package including all the races in the original game, and the original world of Tamriel as a backdrop, a war has begun and only the players enlisting in the factions represented can stem the tide.
The Daggerfall Covenant is comprised of Breton, Redguard and Orcs and make up the first alliance. The Aldmeri Dominion includes the High Elves, Wood Elves and the feline Khajiit. The Ebonheart Pact has the lizard-like Argonians, the Nord, and the Dark Elves.
All of Tamriel is being threatened by the schemes of Molag Bal, the Daedric Prince who’s also known as the Father of Vampires. Hosts of undead are sure to be amongst the players enemies as they strive to stop the world from joining Oblivion.
Set one thousand years before Skyrim, the last game from Bethesda in the series, the backgrounds from the game and the books will come alive. Lush landscapes rewarding exploration have been the design team’s priority since day one of the project’s inception.
Mouse controlled combat, with left click for strikes, right click for blocks, as well as stealth, and magic, all coming through from the hit PC game series set in the same world. The same nine races will all be playable, giving players a wide breadth of options to explore and customization options to make them look unique. Also like the PC and console hits, players will be able to pick and choose their armor, weapons, and classes without all the restrictions of standard fantasy fare MMO’s. Want a heavily armored fighter with a bow? Or maybe a mage with a two-handed sword? Perhaps a stealthy rogue who runs around healing people? Players might become werewolves or vampires, or they might choose to have a special pet. All these choices and more await in this MMO scheduled for a December 2013 estimated launch.
The design team is using a mega-server technology so everyone will be on the same server, with the goal of having the server place players with their friends and guild-mates together. The game plans on allowing players to solo, or join larger groups with castle raids and siege weaponry seen in early videos of the game in action. With a planned level cap of at least 50, and PVP and PVE activities, this MMO looks to be breaking so many of the bonds already established in MMO’s of the last 15 years. It’s definitely one to watch!
