Guild Wars 2 is soon to be entering the second phase of the Flame and Frost
chapter, a series of adventures and updates to the game to make it even more enticing. Set to begin on February 26th the newest installment in this four part series looks to add some long-anticipated features in addition to Tyria’s story evolving as well:
“The situation worsens for the citizens of Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateau. Volunteers have eased the burden, but more refugees hobble down from the Shiverpeaks. The storm there gains momentum, but the forces of good are beginning to rally. They’re sending their heroes to defend the land and its peoples. Someone must hold back the gathering storm.
In Flame and Frost: The Gathering Storm, the second installment in this four-part series, the stakes are raised, and battles rage, in the foothills of the Shiverpeaks.”
For PVPers the landscape is broadening with the addition of a new map called “Spirit Watch”.
“This peaceful green vale, nestled between cliffside shrines to the norn Spirits of the Wild is about to echo with the sounds of combat. In Spirit Watch, players will score bonus points by capturing the Orb of Ascension and running it to any of the three shrines on this newest PvP map.”
In addition, PVP will have a new mode. Two teams of equal average rating will be competing in what ArenaNet describes as “quick, intense matches”. Every member of the team will have their ratings adjusted after every match.
One of the new changes to the first installment players are checking out is the achievement system, which now changes daily and awards laurels that can be turned into a laurel vendor for items useful in game. With this second installment, players can choose their own daily achievements, allowing them to determine what kind of content they are rewarded for playing.
Also in this upcoming installment are a couple highly anticipated features by many players.
Since launch day players wanting to preview items they might want to buy from the in-game trading post had no way to check them out before buying. In this installment players can preview an item they are thinking of buying by right-clicking on the item and selecting preview.
This will allow a prospective buyer to preview the item/weapon by itself, when it is in use, or sheathed.
Another anticipated feature that is finally making its way to the game are guild missions. Those players in guilds will now be able to take on a new form of group play activity with new guild missions. These missions, designed for coordinated group play, include everything from bounties to group puzzles to cross-country challenges. Guildmates will need to work together to complete the missions and earn new Guild Merits, which can unlock cool upgrades and rewards.
From the long-awaited item previews and guild missions to PVP and the new story content, the upcoming installment looks to be quite promising for Guild Wars 2 players of all types.
