Electronic Arts has announced August 21st (and August 22 for PSN in Europe) as the date that the NHL franchise releases a demo for Hockey fans to try out this year’s title. The demo will be available on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. The full game releases on September 11th.
The demo will feature access to four different modes – Play Now, NHL Moments Live, Hockey Ultimate Team (HUT) and Free Skate – and the ability to earn up to three HUT Item Packs to use in the full version of NHL 13.
As usual, the demo will allow fans to jump in and play the third period between the Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings and the best in the East, the New Jersey Devils. The score will be randomized at the beginning of the period each time the puck is dropped.
Also available in the demo will be a sneak peek at NHL moments live, in this case fans can relive the dramatic overtime showdown of Game Five of the Western Conference Final between the Kings and Phoenix Coyotes.
HUT will be in the demo, allowing players to create a fantasy team and earn a HUT pack and improvements to it (beat team USA and win the tournament to upgrade your deck) when the game releases.
This year’s demo gives players the chance to hone their skating skills in the free skate as well.
All your skills will be needed when you lace em’ up and try to win the oldest trophy in professional team sports, the Stanley Cup.
