Are you a fan of Rainbow Six, SWAT or SOCOM: US Navy Seals?  Are you are a fan of old school shooters where thinking meant more than running and gunning or perks?

If so, Christian Allen a developer and the CEO of Serellan, LLC has just the game you are looking for.

The game is TAKEDOWN (working title).  “TAKEDOWN is a thinking-person’s shooter.  The player that takes things slow, aims carefully, and plans their moves right will overcome the player who runs in with guns blazing.  Close-quarters battle brings the fight inside, as you would see SWAT teams or SOF units taking down small numbers of dangerous adversaries. Non-linear environments allow for multiple routes and tactics and add replayability.” says Allen.

The tactical shooter genre is a dying breed.  Storied franchises have been abandoning their roots in hopes to compete with games like Call of Duty or Battlefield.  The once beloved SOCOM franchise has slowly seen a reduction in sales and player interest.  Many believe that SOCOM has tried to become something it isn’t.  Unfortunately, many games have moved in this direction causing shooters to become homogenized.

According to Allen, “TAKEDOWN, is a spiritual successor to games like the original Rainbow Six and SWAT series, will focus on realistic weapons modeling, squad based play, in a close-quarters battle setting.  To succeed in this game you need to take things slow, study your plans, and execute flawlessly.  If you get shot, there are consequences.  You won’t be hiding behind a wall waiting for your health to regenerate.  If a team member goes down, you will have to assess the situation and reallocate team members if necessary to complete the mission.  Don’t expect all of the tools and plans to be forced fed to you – it is up to the player to ensure their team is equipped and ready for the tasks at hand.”

He also adds “You will plan your insertions and routes before going into the scenario, outfitting your teammates with weapons and equipment of your choosing, and then execute the mission. If one of your team members is killed, they are gone, and you have lost their valuable experience, so you have to be careful!”

The PC version will be FPS and the PS3 version will be 3rd person (Xbox360 is currently TBD, Chris is looking for more feedback).

Sounds pretty cool huh?

I have been missing a good tactical shooter since SOCOM 2.  If this game can fulfill that void, I can see many sleepless nights spent playing this game.

Stayed tuned to Gamematics.net for more information on this title, because we will definitely keep an eye on this title!

So how can you do your part to see that this game is made?

Christian has started a Kickstarter campaign to help convince investors that there is a market for Tactical Shooters out there.  He also mentioned that the money will be used to start a larger studio and to bring in a resources full time.  There are different tiers of pledges you can make ($15-$7500), each level having a special reward.  The Kickstarter campaign closes on April 1st so get your pledges in!  It should also be noted that Kickstarters will have access to a closed Alpha.

I think each of you who mentioned GRAW should pledge at least double what you had planned to just because you mentioned that shit series in this comment section.

  5. A Assassin says:

This game sounds awesome! I use to play Counter Strike and moved to the Rainbow Six and GRAW series when the Xbox 360 came out. I’d love to see a good strategic, tactical shooter come out and shine again. I’ll be checking Takedown out if it ends up coming out on the Xbox platform.

  6. SG Noodles says:

Very interesting concept, and look forward to seeing it on Consoles. Rainbow Six was the bomb, and everyone knows I have a special place in my heart for GRAW!

  7. blackzipper says:

Very interesting. I love tactical shooters and I’d be all over anything that resembles Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six at all. I’ll be watching for this one!

  8. Draven says:

I like this idea of investing, having some interaction with the game developers, and participating in the test phases. Even more exciting is the idea of a game recapturing the balance of tactical realism and playability the way R6/Rogue Spear did. I love a game which rewards the smart player over one using spray-and-pray ‘tactics’.

  9. Josh says:

I really hope this gets some love. I’m a huge fan of Rainbow Six and tactical shooters.

  10. CodSteaks says:

Would be great to see a quality game developed with this funding model, could really be a “game changer” in the whole publisher landscape.

  11. Steelhead says:

Interesting concept with the pledge levels. I like it!

I miss Rainbow Six and would love to see more games like it on the market but they’re few and far between.
